A Brief Background

It all started on Christmas morning 1999 when I tore open a box to find a Barbie edition Polaroid camera. I laugh now when I remember how quickly I blew through that first cartridge of film, with random frames of everyone’s presents and (an attempt at) a portrait of each family member, including the new cat. Though neither of my parents are artists by trade, they have highly creative spirits and they continued to quietly encourage mine throughout my entire life. Never feeling pressured to commit to any one thing in particular, I experimented with lots of hobbies and sports, eventually finding my place holding a trumpet in the marching band and a camera on the yearbook staff. I’ve always gravitated toward music and digital arts so it was no shock when I visited Belmont University and fell in love with the possibilities of going into film production. I went on to achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Multimedia Production with a Theatre minor. Those four exciting, pivotal, challenging, faith-shaking, incredibly-expensive years absolutely changed my life. They shaped me into who I am, as an artist and just as a person. The journey also introduced me to my best friends and opened me up to the unique opportunities that have led me to where I am today–a full-time freelance cinematographer.

Though I still call Nashville home for now, I’m excited to continue traveling for projects around the world–documentaries, commercials, music videos, weddings, and pretty much anything that gets me on set around or behind a camera. So yeah, I support Barbie. And Polaroid. Both encouraged me as a child and I’d venture to say my biggest dream of all is just to be that inspiration for the next little girl.
